Today I finished 'The Thirteenth Tale' by Dianne Setterfield (I'll have to check this!)- which was an excellent book. A birthday book, in fact, from one of my very best friends. So I went to the library armed with a mental list of one or two books to investigate and borrow.
I only wanted two in particular- 'Atonement', by Ian McEwan, which is to be released in film version on Boxing Day, starring Keira Knightly, and 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles', which I found out is by Thomas Hardy. As it happened, the library had both on the shelves. I also picked up a copy of 'The True History of the Kelly Gang' by Peter Carey which the library was getting rid of, for a dollar. Score! :) I bought another book about a Chinese silk factory and a feminist union movement, which I'll have to have a closer look at, and blog about at a later date, and borrowed a copy of the first Adrian Mole book, which I've never read before, as well as a copy of a Markus Zusak novel that was discussed in one of the Children's Lit articles that I studied this semester. I'll let you know how I go!
