I was just trying to save a file on my USB drive and was told that I had no room left in which to save the file, so I proceeded to delete some files I didn't need. One file was called 'Book quiz' and as I had no idea what this file was, I decided to open it first before deleting. And I'm glad I did. Find below a quiz I took regarding my reading habits on Saturday the 25th of October, 2008 at 11:14pm. As to where I acquired the quiz in the first place- that remains to be seen. Enjoy!
What was the last book you bought?
I bought three books at ‘Book Heaven’ in Five Flaggs, Victoria, which apparently boasts over 90,000 books spread out over nine rooms in a old hotel which grew out of the Gold Rush. I bought a first edition of Funny by Ethel Turner, a books of short stories called Camp at Wandinong also by Ethel Turner and a sketch book of historic Geelong buildings because my time here is coming to a close. I don’t know where I’ll be next but I do know that I’ll always look back on Geelong fondly.
Name a book you have read MORE than once.
Little Women.
Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Seven Little Australians- Ethel Turner
The Billabong Books by Mary Grant Bruce
And I’ve read I Capture the Castle at least once every year since I turned 14. Strangely enough, I haven’t read it this year.
Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?
To Kill a Mockingbird had a profound effect upon me. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what that effect was.
How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews.
A bit of everything. If a title, author or cover catches my eye and I like what it says on the blurb, then I’ll usually choose that book. Reviews and recommendations also play a large part.
Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
Fiction. But I like books of letters. They’re a wonderful source of amusement and information about years gone by.
What’s more important in a novel - beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
Both. If a plot’s going nowhere then it can be off putting. If too many things happen in a plot it can sometimes be confusing. I like a good mixture.
Most loved/memorable character (character/book)
Cassandra Mortmain.
Jo March.
From I Capture the Castle and Little Women respectively.
Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book.’
What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?
Umm, good question actually. Probably ‘Random Commentary’ by Dorothy Whipple. If I read during the semester I have no hope in hell of getting my work done. I also read ‘Green Grass, Running Water’ by Thomas King for class. I have to write a creative essay on it next week actually.
Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
Yes. When a book needs to be returned to the library or if I get too busy doing other things, like reading other books. Or if a book is just plain boring and I can’t be bothered. Then it gets the flick.
